Cnr.
With fine start to the day on two Dark Star coffees at Zebba, I trek down Lake Street to find Cnr., a cafe that has been on the coffee scene for only 7 weeks. Coffee enthusiast and home roaster Trevor Green wrote a review on Cnr. at Melbourne Coffee Review, so I was keen to check this baby out. Owner Lu Yao runs this joint, using primarily Five Senses coffee beans, both Cafe-Style blends and Single Origin. It is a spectacular looking cafe located in prime location – on the corner of James and Lake Streets in Northbridge at the new Piazza.

Cnr. has recently welcomed the addition of ex La Galette De France barista Steve Lomax to the team who is welcoming, friendly, funny, and just plain awesome. He makes me a long machiatto ($4.20) from a Five Senses Ethiopian Yirgacheffe blend. The coffee has a medium body, is delicate, and inherently sweet and fruity. It is a great coffee.

Before I leave, I say hello to Lu, who at the time has her head buried in paperwork. She mentions that the Northbridge is normally quiet during weekdays with little foot traffic, but Friday and Saturday nights are when Cnr. experiences their busiest periods. Lu has kept low key with advertising and promotion at this stage, but will soon have a Cnr. website up and running. So there should be good times to come yet
There will also be 4G wireless around the corner too.

Cnr. is a great find. Make sure you go check it out.

Nice pants, Callum
Gave this cafe a go today after reading your review – and have to agree the coffee is excellent. One of the best i’ve had in Perth!
Hi Tink, CNR is a great discovery and have I found their coffee to be consistent on subsequent visits. Unlike some other cafes, they really do focus on making the best cup of coffee. I recently had a Dark Horse cappuccino which was a combination of three Single Origin blends. It was a very dark coffee and was really good – great for a milk based coffee but not so much as an espresso (very strong).
I’m glad my review was helpful!
Hi, I’ve been trying to contact CNR to make a booking for a few days now and it’s saying ‘the number is not connected’, their website is also not connecting. Does anyone know if they have moved premises or gone out of business?
