Pony Express O

“You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.” OK, this normally holds true, but not for Pony Express O, which continues to attract the local West Perth workers who want to stay, drink, chill, and then come back again the next day.

Just to make it clear, this is Pony Express O :)

Pony Express O is located in the narrow one-way street called Mayfair Street, and stands out from the old boring business grey. It is a beautiful building, a heritage listed 20th century stables – red exposed brick, and wood, lots of it. I could live in a place like this. I would be the happiest caffeinated horse alive. A horse’s wet dream.

Garrett runs Pony Express O, the owner and barista with a Dicko-style resemblance who is friendly and offers great service. He is a machine, churning out quality Crema blend coffees for customers. He tells us that customers are welcome to bring their own food and relax in this fine establishment, and even make use of the foot massager sitting in the main drinking area. We order an espresso and a long machiatto and then watch Garrett prepare our coffees along with seven others. After receiving our coffees and having a nice chat, we proceed to sit down at the large communal table in the opposite end of the room. I bump into Theo from Little Caesars who is on his way out after a caffeinated morning. Small world indeed. My long mac has a nice crema, is not too hot and goes down well.

We don’t spend a lot of time at Pony Express O because the only parking spot we could find had a 15 minute time limit. We quickly say goodbye to Garrett and then gallop off to get the car before the grey ghost appears.

Pony Express O is definitely a place worth checking out. Quality coffee, great service, awesome venue. Shame about the lack of parking!

Also make sure you check out Cafe Grendel and Tannic Teeth for some great reviews on Pony Express O.

Thank you for reminding me about this place! Am rarely in West Perth but perhaps I’ll have to make a special visit.

I don’t think they serve food though do they?

They have a few slices and biscuits and you can take your own food to enjoy while having a coffee.

Took a short visit to pony, what stood out was the hidden location within a car park, the fake grass out the back, the fact that there is no ordering counter (you walk straight into the barista area) and the awesome coin shoot where you pay if you have the right change.

Coffee was ok.. very creamy and more like a mocha aftertaste, but it was the coin shoot that did it for me, very quirky!

Did you try the foot massager? :P
