Cupcakes on the go – Sherbet Cafe & Bake Shop

Today I went to the Sherbet Cafe & Bake Shop to pick up some cupcakes. I bought three of them: Vanilla – Raspberry (vanilla bean cake with whole raspberries & crushed raspberry frosting), Chocolate – Chocolate (chocolate cake with creamy chocolate frosting), and Carrot – Lemon (moist carrot cake with creamy lemon frosting). They were $4.00 each.

The Vanilla – Raspberry cupcake was decadent. The frosting was very light, and softly crackled in and between my teeth. It was not overly sweet and you could tell it was made from fresh raspberries as there was a slight sour aftertaste. The vanilla bean cake was spongy, and the whole raspberries (which lay just beneath the frosting) were fresh.

The Chocolate – Chocolate cupcake was everything that a chocolate lover would want – moist and slightly bitter chocolate cake, with a light cocoa frosting that screamed “eat me!”.

The Carrot – Lemon cupcake had a lot more texture to it mainly because of the carrot, nuts, and seeds. It was to die for. The lemon frosting added some nice tanginess and was delightful.

I found the Vanilla – Raspberry to be the best of the three. It was the best cupcake I have ever had. Sherbet Cafe & Bake Shop use the highest quality ingredients which include Madagascan vanilla beans, Kennedy & Wilson chocolate, free range eggs, and fresh seasonal fruit. If you’re into cutesy New York style cupcakes like me and you haven’t been, you have to go or you’re missing out. The shop also is a small cafe, where you can sit down and eat one of their savoury treats, as well as lemon slices, various cakes, and of course, cupcakes. Having them with a coffee on a warm spring/summer day sounds like heaven to me.
